About
Our Philosophy
Grounded in the view that the mind begins as a “blank slate,” an individual’s evolving mindset reflects the unique interplay of their experiences, perceptions, and cognitive schemas. By exploring how different people interpret the same situations in profoundly different ways, our approach emphasizes care that is individualized, contextual, and attuned to both the inner world and the outer environment, shaping emotional well-being.
Fauzia Arain, MD
Welcome to Arain Integrative Psychiatry. I’m Dr. Fauzia Arain, a Child, Adolescent, & Adult psychiatrist based in Manhattan and Westchester, with specialized experience in youth and women’s mental health. I am a Clinical Assistant Professor at Rutgers NJMS and a Staff Psychiatrist at Hudson County State Psychiatric Hospital, New Jersey. I provide comprehensive psychiatric evaluation, medication management, and psychotherapy for individuals and families across New York and New Jersey. My areas of clinical expertise include anxiety, depression, ADHD, and women’s mental health.
I completed my Adult Psychiatry Residency at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School and my Child & Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship at Mount Sinai BronxCare. My background also includes clinical research fellowship training at NYU Langone Health and Columbia University, along with psychotherapy training through the New York Psychoanalytic Society & Institute and advanced evidence-based psychotherapy certification through Psychwire, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Motivational Interviewing (MI). I am the recipient of multiple awards, including the SAMHSA Minority Fellowship Award, and currently lead Project YouthWell in New York as a trained APA–SAMHSA fellow, promoting youth mental health awareness and community education.
My Approach to Care
“My approach integrates cultural understanding,
emotional insight, and respect for each person’s lived experience.”
I collaborate closely with therapists, pediatricians, educators, and school systems to provide consultative support for learning, behavioral, and performance-related concerns. This collaborative, culturally sensitive, and evidence-based approach allows me to develop treatment plans that are thoughtful, effective, and tailored to each individual and family.
Before psychiatry, I practiced for over a decade as an obstetrician and gynecologist, shaping my work in women’s and family mental health. As a physician and parent who raised children while navigating cultural transitions, I bring a nuanced understanding of how family systems, expectations, and environment shape emotional health.
Through integrative, culturally attuned care, my goal is to help each patient move toward clarity, stability, and meaningful long-term well-being.
“I work with children, teens, and adults, with a particular interest in supporting women in transitional phases, high-achieving students, and families navigating cultural, academic, or developmental stressors.”
